Licensing SCP
Licensing SCP
There are two ways to licence SCP, with either fixed or floating licences.
Fixed Licences
With a fixed licence, you have a key that is used on each copy of SCP that you have bought a seat for - unlike previous versions, the same key can be used a number of times rather than generating a new key for each computer. If you need to move the software to a new computer, you can deactivate first (or contact IST to deactivate at our end) in order to free up the key to use again.

Floating licences
A Floating License allows you to install SCP on any number of computers which are connected to a computer running our License Server software. The License is installed on the License Server, and limits the number of concurrent users of the software to the number of 'seats' you have bought. You can run a Floating License Server on your own site, or we can run one on our servers for you.
If you choose to run your own License Server instance, the software should be installed on either a server or on a desktop PC that is left permanently on.
Use Cases for Floating Licenses
If you have lots of users that all need to use SCP occasionally, floating licences are usually the best option, with the license server either hosted on your site or on our servers.
If you are a single user wishing to run SCP on more than one PC, then a single seat floating license is a good solution PROVIDED THAT the License Server is installed on a server or on a permanently on desktop PC. Otherwise hosting a license server instance with us would be a better choice.
If you only intend one user to be using the software on a single computer, a fixed license is probably a better option.
